International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Preparation Program

Many students come to the Infinite Edge Learning Center with the expectations of increasing their scores on the IELTS in order to get into their intended program at a university of their choice. Students who have taken the IELTS typically provide their previous scores to Ozra Jabbari, the office manager, and the instructors then focus on the areas that need improvement and sculpt the areas that are already exemplary. Those students who haven’t taken the IELTS are administered a diagnostic assessment that measures what their prospective scores will be in order to guide proper instruction on where improvement needs to be made for desired test scores.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

Test of English as a Foreign Language® (TOEFL) is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers wishing to enroll in English-speaking universities. The test is accepted by many English-speaking academic and professional institutions. TOEFL is one of the two major English-language tests in the world, the other being the IELTS.

What you can expect

The preparation program explores the different aspects of the following sections of the IELTS exam:

Reading

The reading component of the IELTS test takes one hour. We prepare multiple passages for the students and guide them by using active reading strategies and test-taking strategies that will better assist students during the test. Instructors also find alternate resources that further challenge students with reading comprehension practice and other practices that are necessary for literary success.

Writing

The writing component of the IELTS test takes one hour. We focus equally on preparing students to be successful with Task I, reports based on graphic information such as bar graphs, pie charts, and diagrams, and Task II, which includes an essay based on a topic given. We have many resources that focus on specific vocabulary and topic prompts that will readily prepare the students for what will be on the IELTS.

Listening

The listening component of the IELTS test takes roughly 30 minutes. We focus on preparing students to improve on their listening skills by using our texts and other resources to answer the multiple choice, sentence completion, short answer, form completion, matching, and diagram labeling segments of the listening portion of the IELTS.

Speaking

The speaking component of the IELTS test is no longer than 15 minutes. Our instructors focus on being well-prepared for all three parts of the speaking test. Students will be able to answer questions, speak briefly about a prompt, and have a long discussion successfully and confidently after being prepared with practice on multiple prompts and being exposed to the necessary vocabulary that will assist with score improvement.

The instructors at Infinite Edge Learning Center work diligently to ensure that each student feels comfortable with the material and they will dedicate themselves to the student’s improvement.
